Fell Asleep Driving and had a Minor Car Accident…

Submitted By: Geovanny (Ormond Beach, FL)

It was 7am and I was going to my house. On the way I fell asleep and I ended up hitting a stop sign. Cops came and they gave me a ticket for careless driving.

Now I’m not sure how to deal with my insurance company because i ended up hitting the windshield with my face and I have several other body pains. How should I handle this?

Answer

Dear Geovanny,

In a case where you are at fault, you need to check your insurance policy to determine whether it will cover your injuries when you are to blame for the accident.

Most policies will, but you need to be mindful of the deductible and the premium increase (especially when a citation is involved) and determine for yourself whether it is worth it to use your insurance for this claim.

The above is general information. Laws change frequently, and across jurisdictions. You should get a personalized case evaluation from a licensed attorney. Find a local attorney to give you a free case review here , or call (888) 647-2490.

Best of luck,
