Injured in a Bus Crash in Turkey...

by Kelly

Thank you for providing this very useful site. I am a Canadian who was visiting Turkey as a tourist. I was in a bus accident in Turkey. I was injured and hospitalized in Turkey for approx. 1.5 weeks.

The bus company paid for the medical expenses of everyone injured in the crash, but I wanted to inquire regarding further compensation.

What would be the best way to go about this seeing as it is an international case? Do you have any suggestions on where to find out more information?

Thank you for any help you can provide,

ANSWER for "Injured in a Bus Crash in Turkey...":

The fact that this is an international case certainly raises some interesting issues, but the answer to your question remains the same across the board. The best way to inquire about additional compensation would be to contact the transit authority of the bus company.

Typically they have administrative claims (often 6 months in duration) that must be submitted if seeking compensation against a governmental entity. If the bus is privately owned, you will need to contact the private company. Find out if there is an "administrative" claim that must first be submitted.

From here, you will seek information about the insurance policy in existence at the time of the accident. If they cooperate and provide this information to you, you can submit a claim for damages on your own. If not, you may need the assistance of an experienced attorney who can work internationally.

The above is general information. Laws change frequently, and across jurisdictions. You should get a personalized case evaluation from an attorney licensed in your state. Find a local attorney to give you a free case review here, or call (888) 647-2490.

Best of luck,
