Liability for Slip and Fall on Rice?
I have a quick question I hope you can elaborate on...
If I visited a local restaurant, and I slipped, fell and was injured on some rice that had been thrown from a previous wedding reception, would the restaurant be liable for my injuries? Why or why not?

ANSWER for "Liability for Slip and Fall on Rice?":
Yes, the restaurant would likely be liable for the injuries and their resultant medical costs. Here's why:
The restaurant owes a duty of care to members of the public who are invited onto their premises. That duty of due care includes, but is not limited to, keeping the floors clear of any potentially dangerous items, whether large or small, which might lead to injuries of its patrons.
If someone did slip and fall and become injured they should immediately seek medical attention. Then as soon as possible contact the manager or owner of the restaurant to report the incident.
The restaurant has to be put on notice of the incident if it is expected to have to pay for the costs of injuries, and other related items such as out of pocket expenses like prescription and over the counter medications, lost wages, and even for an amount for pain and suffering.
The above is general information. Laws change frequently, and across jurisdictions. You should get a personalized case evaluation from an attorney licensed in your state. Find a local attorney to give you a free case review here, or call (888) 647-2490.
