Maintenance Not Fixing Leak Causes Slip and Fall...
by Anonymous (USA)
I had put in three work orders to have a leak fixed in my apartment unit (I live in subsidized housing). Maintenance has come to fix it but every time they leave, about two days later I notice that it continues to leak.
Well yesterday after going in the kitchen to get my toddler some juice I slipped and fell because there was water on the floor from the leak, and now today I'm feeling it terribly, my back is killing me!
I just wanted to know if there's anything I can do? Thanks.

ANSWER for "Maintenance Not Fixing Leak Causes Slip and Fall...":
Your landlord may be liable for the injuries you sustained and the money it may take to treat those injuries. Before any liability can be assessed you must see a doctor.
A medical or osteopathic doctor will be able to order tests to determine the nature and extent of your injuries. The doctors may order an (MRI) Magnetic Resonance Imaging examination or a (CAT Scan) Computer Axial Tomography examination. Both of these tests can determine with great accuracy whether you suffered a back injury, and if so what your prognosis may be.
Hopefully you haven’t suffered any serious injuries, but it's best not to take any chances. If you have suffered documentable injuries then you will have the foundation of a personal injury claim against the landlord.
From there you can begin your case by contacting the landlord and advising her of your injuries. If your landlord doesn’t take you seriously you can consider legal action against her.
