Visitor Question

Coverage in different states?

Submitted By: Cherie (Palm Beach, FL)

I have several questions about my coverage…

What if my company is based in Louisiana and has workers comp insurance in Louisiana, but I work and reside in Florida? What is the difference in coverage between the states? How would I file a claim if I was hurt in Florida while working? Thanks for any information you can give to help me figure this out.

Dear Cherie,

Your benefits will be determined by the State of Florida’s workers compensation division. In Florida, the workers comp division is formally referred to as the State Department of Financial Services.

The workers comp laws in the State of Louisiana do not control or supercede the laws in Florida. To access the information you will need to file and formally pursue your on-the-job injury claim got to the Dept of Financial Services website.

If, before filing your injury claim you want to discuss the compensation process, you can contact the Bureau of Employee Assistance and Ombudsman Office (EAO) at:

200 East Gaines Street Tallahassee, FL 32399-4225

Toll Free: (800) 342-1741

Central Office: (850) 413-1610 Fax: (850) 413-1970 & (850) 413-1979 E-Mail:

The above is general information. Laws change frequently, and across jurisdictions. You should get a personalized case evaluation from a licensed attorney. Find a local attorney to give you a free case review here , or call (888) 647-2490.

Best of luck,
