Hate Crime – Beaten at a Gas Station…

Submitted By: Anonymous (Seattle, WA)

My aunt and I were brutally attacked and beaten due to our religion at a gas station in Seattle. The incident was caught on camera and the lady has since been charged with two counts of malicious harassment (Hate Crime).

The incident was a big case all over the news in Seattle due to the fact that the gas station was filled with occupants at the time and it was caught on camera. We immediately got representation by a firm that was willing to help us out pro bono.

The case has been going on for a year. The corporation (the gas station was part of a national chain) is now saying that they are not liable for the attack since I made the three 911 calls and eventually the employee at the store made one (after watching us getting beaten and coming out several times to do nothing).

My aunt and I since have suffered severe psychological trauma for which we see a therapist three times a week. Can we sue the gas station for negligence? Is there any other legal action we can take? Thank you for any information you can give.

Dear Anonymous, has a strict policy of not interfering with the attorney-client relationship. Doing so would be legally inappropriate. Our best suggestion is to contact your attorneys and ask to have a “sit down”.

Ask your attorneys to sit with you and review the contents of your file. Before you make an appointment to visit with them take out a pad and write down all the questions you would like to ask and have answered.

Your attorneys should be able to answer most, if not all of your questions.

You should understand only your attorneys will know if filing suit against the gas station is the appropriate action to take. Your attorneys are in control of the facts and evidence related to your case. If you trust your attorneys then you should listen to them and follow their advice and counsel.

If, after visiting with your attorneys you are not satisfied with their answers you always have a right to terminate their services and seek other counsel. Hopefully

that will not be the case.

Personal Injury cases can take months, and sometimes years to finalize. Sometimes patience can be a virtue.

The above is general information. Laws change frequently, and across jurisdictions. You should get a personalized case evaluation from a licensed attorney. Find a local attorney to give you a free case review here , or call (888) 647-2490.

Best of luck,
