Hurt by Airport Equipment…

Submitted By: Adolf (California)

My mother works for a company at the airport. She was injured while working one day from the equipment they use. She told the manger ahead of time that the equipment was dangerous and to make sure no one gets hurt, and then she was the one who got hurt! She was injured really bad.

Will she be suing the airport company or the equipment company? About how much money should she be suing for?

Dear Adolf,

When you say your mother was hurt “really bad” that doesn’t afford us enough information to suggest a reasonable settlement amount. Personal injury settlement amounts are based on several factors. Some of these include the severity of the injuries, the total of the medical bills, now and into the future, out of pocket expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

The first step in the process is to contact her employer and make sure an “Incident Report” of some type was made at or about the time of her injury. The next step will be for your mother to seek medical attention. It would have been helpful if she sought medical attention at the time she was injured, but often injuries don’t manifest symptoms for several days, weeks, and often months after the initial injury.

California law allows 2 years from the date of an injury for a person to either settle their personal injury case or file suit. As long as you keep that time period in mind you will preserve your mother’s legal rights to sue.

The above is general information. Laws change frequently, and across jurisdictions. You should get a personalized case evaluation from a licensed attorney. Find a local attorney to give you a free case review here , or call (888) 647-2490.

Best of luck,
