Multi Car Pile Up Personal Injury Case…

Submitted By: Carol (East Windsor, NJ)

I was stopped at a red light (1st car). Another car was stopped right behind me (second car).

A third car went through a red light striking the car behind me and then the second car hit me. I had resulting pain in my neck, back, hand and wrist.

The driver of the third car running the red light was issued a ticket for reckless driving. I was seen in the emergency room and the X-rays indicated no fractures. I was referred to an orthopedist and physical therapy. I was seen for 3 months in PT. They said it was possible strain/pulled muscle with recurrent pain in varying degrees.

What do I have to do to get my bills paid for and to get compensated for my pain and suffering?

Dear Carol,

You will need to do a few things. First of all, consider filing a claim against both the second and third car. Even though the one car was cited and considered “at fault” each car in the chain reaction may carry some liability.

Once you have completed treatment you will want to gather all medical bills, out of pocket expenses (i.e. prescriptions) and lost wages. These will be used to put together a proper demand letter that takes all things into consideration.

The benefit to pursuing two individuals is that, if both are at fault, you may increase your settlement. It’s just a thought and one that will not damage you in any way for trying.

The above is general information. Laws change frequently, and across jurisdictions. You should get a personalized case evaluation from a licensed attorney. Find a local attorney to give you a free case review here , or call (888) 647-2490.

Best of luck,
