Do I have the right to review the settlement before the lawyer issues the check?

Dear Milik,

Not only do you need to review the settlement agreement, your attorney must explain the contents and make sure that you understand what you are signing.

Secondly, most states REQUIRE an attorney to go over these documents.

Understand that what you are signing is binding; Once it is submitted to the insurance company, it is difficult if not impossible to re-negotiate the terms.

So, please do not sign the Settlement Agreement until you have spoken with an attorney.

The above is general information. Laws change frequently, and across jurisdictions. You should get a personalized case evaluation from a licensed attorney. Find a local attorney to give you a free case review here , or call (888) 647-2490.

Best of luck,
