Can I get my medical bills paid after getting stung by a scorpion?

I was stung by a scorpion that came up from the drain in my apartment. I went to the hospital and had to pay for all my prescriptions. I reported the accident to my apartment complex the day it happened and all they said was they’ll have someone come to spray for bugs in a week.

I’m wondering if I can hold the apartment complex responsible for paying my medical bills?

“Holding” your apartment complex liable can mean a couple of things…

• You personally feel they were responsible for your injury and the resulting medical expenses

• You want to tell them you feel they were liable for your injuries and expenses and hope they pay those expenses

• You want to tell them if they refuse to pay your medical bills and related expenses you will sue them.

Bring your medical bills to the management office. Tell them what happened and ask them to pay for your medical bills, including any of your out of pocket expenses, like prescription or over the counter medicine, bandages, etc.

If they refuse you will have to decide whether to file suit, or not.

If you file suit it should be in Small Claims Court. If you win, the court will order them to pay your bills, the filing fees for the lawsuit and possibly a small amount for your trouble – or “pain and suffering”.
