Answer

Dear Anonymous,

I’ve seen a personal injury matter settle in as quickly as 6 months or as long as 7 years.

To start a P.I. action, first you bring a claim against the insurance company. After exchanging your medical records, sometimes the parties can agree to a quick settlement.

If a settlement can’t be reached, a lawsuit is started. A case can settle anytime as the lawsuit progresses through documentary discovery, various court conferences, depositions and IMEs (Independent Medical Examinations). Thereafter, paperwork is filed letting the court know you are ready for trial. If the case is still not settled, then you have the trial.

The above is general information. Laws change frequently, and across jurisdictions. You should get a personalized case evaluation from a licensed attorney. Find a local attorney to give you a free case review here , or call (888) 647-2490.

Best of luck with your claim.
