Slipped and Fell in a Movie Theater…

Submitted By: Robyn (Desert Hot Springs, CA)

I was at a movie theater waiting for the movie to start. They were mopping the floor but there was no wet floor sign and they said we can go in and see the movie. I was walking normally and slipped and fell on some water. It felt like I sprained my ankle at the time.

Now it’s two days later and my arm has also been hurting. I can walk but not that well. I have never fallen before like that. I’m just not sure what, if anything I should do?

Answer

Dear Robyn,

As long as you haven’t suffered any injuries, and haven’t been required to pay medical bills, it’s best to just let the matter go. If you are still suffering any pain or discomfort seek medical attention. If you have suffered a medically documented injury then you will be in a position to negotiate a settlement.

People fall all the time.

A good majority of those believe as soon as they fall they are automatically owed money.

Some people conjure up

fantasies of securing thousands of dollars just because they fell in a business.

“Slip and Falls” as they are called, cost millions of dollars in insurance and legal costs every year. So many unnecessary and frivolous lawsuits are filed all the time. For some, the larger the company, the more they think they think they can get, whether they were injured or not.

If you are still suffering any pain or discomfort it’s best to seek medical attention.

If you have suffered a medically documented injury then you will be in a position to negotiate a settlement. Otherwise, its best to move on.

The above is general information. Laws change frequently, and across jurisdictions. You should get a personalized case evaluation from a licensed attorney. Find a local attorney to give you a free case review here , or call (888) 647-2490.

Best of luck,
