Today I was shopping in between aisles in a major retail store when 2 heavy shelves fell on my foot/ankle. They were very heavy and caused others to look my way due to the loud commotion.
Initially, all I noticed was that my ankle was scrapped. I then requested the manager who rushed down to see what happened. He quickly picked up the shelves, apologized and said that they shouldn’t be in the area, especially leaned against a wall. He filed an incident report and offered me a 20% discount on my purchase and gave me his card.
Later, the pain in my ankle worsened and swelling began. I plan on heading to the doctor for my injuries but I don’t have insurance. What should I do now? Contact a lawyer? How do I pay for medical treatment without insurance? Thank you.

It was pro forma for the manager to have filed an Incident Report detailing your slip and fall. Included in the incident report will be your name and a description of the the circumstances surrounding your fall. Your name and contact information will also likely be in the report.
Before taking any other action, seek medical attention. Your health is more important than the pursuit of a claim for the personal injuries you may have sustained. You can pass your medical bills to the owner of the store where you fell.
From the facts your present, you haven’t sustained a serious injury. While you can contact a personal injury attorney, you may not be able to find one who will accept your case.
