Compensation for Being Injured on Bus…

Submitted By: Harvey (Oakland, California)

I was traveling through Colorado on my way to California on a bus when it slammed on its brakes to avoid a deer. I was thrown from my seat, hit my head, shoulder, and sustained injuries to my lower back.

Am I legally entitled to any compensation and if so, how much should I be legally rewarded with?

Dear Harvey,

Its hard to say what the bus company will compensate a victim for without first submitting a claim. The best thing to do is submit a claim to Greyhound through the appropriate department, most likely “Legal.”

If they accept liability, you will need to gather your medical expenses and submit them to the adjuster along with a demand for settlement. If you have not obtained any medical care thus far, it is unlikely that they will settle for more than a nominal amount.

The above is general information. Laws change frequently, and across jurisdictions. You should get a personalized case evaluation from a licensed attorney. Find a local attorney to give you a free case review here , or call (888) 647-2490.

Best of luck,
