The amount awarded by the judge in a personal injury case is why I ask this question. What is a fair fee for the attorney? I appreciate your answer.

ANSWER for "What is a fair fee for a personal injury attorney?":
In most personal injury cases, you would have signed a contingency fee agreement before retaining the attorney. That agreement would have spelled out the fees to be paid.
Typically, 33 and 1/3 percent before discovery commences and 40 percent thereafter, plus fees and expenses is standard. Attorneys, however are free to negotiate a rate that is less than quoted above. To negotiate a fee after the settlement is out of the ordinary, but can be done following the above advice.
The above is general information. Laws change frequently, and across jurisdictions. You should get a personalized case evaluation from an attorney licensed in your state. Find a local attorney to give you a free case review here, or call (888) 647-2490.
